Deadline October 12, 2011 5:00 p.m.
The City of Agoura Hills announced that it is accepting applications for a new city treasurer, a position which is appointed by the city manager with five (5) hours of anticipated service at a monthly stipend of $300. Qualified individuals from Agoura Hills and surrounding communities are invited to apply for the position. “The appointment is a vital community service to the city and we hope to recruit a financial professional who would like to help the city maximize its budget and guard its resources,” said Nathan Hamburger, assistant city manager.
Under the direction and general supervision of the city council, the city treasurer assists with the planning and organization of activities pertaining to the city treasury. The appointment includes reviewing and advising on investments in compliance with the city’s investment policy as well as all state and federal laws; reviewing statements and reports on the city’s financial position; reviewing the city’s banking needs and contracts; and serving on the Finance Committee.
The city treasurer plays a key role in the management of revenue and investments, therefore, the city is seeking someone with knowledge in the principles and practices of financial record keeping, banking; state and city laws and ordinances pertaining to financial administration of municipal government; principals of computer technology and systems analysis; governmental accounting, and budgeting and investment management practices within a municipal environment. Qualified applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or related field and ten years of experience in investing in compliance with the California State Code.
The selected candidate will replace former city treasurer Lily Ruff who served as Agoura Hills’ founding treasurer for 28 years and as city treasurer for Malibu for the last four years until her passing on March 4, 2011. At a recent council meeting, Agoura Hills Mayor Harry Schwarz presented a proclamation in memory of Ruff for providing a wealth of fiscal and banking experience to the community and for her involvement in literacy programs for children, animal welfare and other charitable work.
The city treasurer application packet is available on the city website, http://ci.agoura-hills.ca.us. Completed application, resume and supplemental questionnaire must be received at the Agoura Hills City Hall by October 12, 2011, by 5:00 pm.
