2009 General Municipal Election

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, registered voters of the City of Agoura Hills will have the opportunity to elect three (3) Members of the City Council.

Persons interested in running for office as a Member of the City Council (About the City Council) must be a resident of the City of Agoura Hills and a registered voter in the City at the time nomination papers are issued and throughout the time the person is in office.

To pull nomination papers, contact the City Clerk's Office during the filing period beginning Monday, July 13, 2009, and ending Friday, August 7, 2009.  As the process to pull nomination papers takes approximately one hour, it is highly recommended that potential candidates make an appointment with the City Clerk to pull their nomination papers. The nomination filing period will be extended if any incumbent does not file by the August 7, 2009, deadline.

The County of Los Angeles, Election Preparation Division, will mail sample ballots to each registered voter between Thursday, September 24, 2009, and Tuesday, October 13, 2009.  Vote-by-mail ballots must be filed with the County between Monday, October 5, 2009, and Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Voter registration for the upcoming November election closes Monday, October 19, 2009.

Are you registered to vote?  If you are a U.S. citizen, will be at least 18 years old on or before the next election, and are not imprisoned or on parole for a felony conviction, you may register to vote.  If you have not registered, or if you have previously registered and recently changed your name or address, Voter Registration Forms are available at the City Clerk's Office in City Hall, the Agoura Hills Library at the Agoura Hills Civic Center, and the Post Office located at 5158 Clareton Drive in Agoura Hills.

Looking for the location of your Polling Place?  By mid-October, the County will have distributed the Official Sample Ballot and Voter Instructions (the Polling Place is listed on the back cover) to each registered voter. If a sample ballot was not received or you are unsure of the location of your Polling Place, you may access the information by entering your house number and street name on the County's Polling Place and Sample Ballot Lookup or by calling the City Clerk's Office at (818) 597-7300.

Following the General Municipal Election on November 3, 2009, the Agoura Hills City Council will hold their Official Reorganization Meeting on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, to seat the newly elected Councilmembers and select a Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for 2009-10.

Should you have any questions regarding the upcoming election please call the City Clerk’s Office at (818) 597-7303 or (818) 597-7300 for further information or email the City Clerk.
